Stand Pipe functions: They connect the discharge tubes off the HPOP to the oil rails. Since the oil rail needs to be removable, the "pipe" that connects them together needs to be removable. They have a snubber inside them that helps attenuate the pulses in the HP oil system. The HPOP is a piston style pump on '04.5+, swash plate on earlier, that causes a lot of pulsation and the injectors can cause transients due to the quick opening and closing (think water hammer).
